Shuruuq

Shuruuq is a beautifully designed 4 bedroomed property located in the Calais area of St Martin, Guernsey. The property benefits from stunning views to the neighbouring Channel Islands and the design seeks to make the most of this through extensive fenestration.

Davies Associates were appointed in early 2019 to act as Quantity Surveyor for the project. Following the completion of a cost plan, Davies Associates recommended working with a local contractor to negotiate the construction contract. This allowed the design team to utilise the contractor’s experience to achieve maximum buildability without detracting from the Architect’s design vision.

Work started on site in March 2020. The contractor had a number of challenges to overcome due to the Covid restrictions in force during the build, as well as the knock on impact of these restrictions on the delivery of some of the key construction materials such as the stone (Purbeck), windows and cedar cladding, that were all being supplied from the UK. Despite this, the construction phase ran smoothly and the clients moved in to the property in the summer of 2021.

The project has been shortlisted for numerous design awards.
